Monoposto Championship, Cadwell Park, 1600 & 1200, 6 & 7 September 2008

Ewen Serisson writes: Due to there being nobody free to write a report for the 1600/1200 race for Cadwell Park and because my wife made a video of the race, I thought I would have a go!

Upon arrival to the circuit I decided to park well out of the way but found that it was the only place left due to allot of people testing!
The lucky few who got tarmac were blessed as it was more like Glastonbury than Cadwell for the rest of us! Rain all day Friday had left the track and paddock drenched! And then it rained for most of Saturday.

QUALIFYING SATURDAY

In my opinion qualifying was wet but David Tilson and Tony Davis both opted for slicks! When out on track it was 50/50 but I was happy with my choice! Kat Impey, Chris Vinall & Geoff Fern all took class pole's. The only real misplaced drivers were Tony Davis and myself!
Tony had a real excuse of possibly being on the wrong tyre but he thought he had made the right choice, who knows! But as for me I had nothing else to blame than being a big tart!

Only needing three points to seal the championship I did 5 laps and returned to the pits!

Well done to Sara Fogg in the Agent for staying calm and enjoying her first attempt at racing with us ego maniacs!

Turned out to be a male sandwich with women at both ends of the grid! Heaven eh Boys!

RACE 1 SATURDAY

After looking dry a sudden downpour meant our race was wet! For some reason the CSCC gave us two warm up laps so we could get used to the same conditions we had in qualifying. Maybe it was a good will gesture as they had no intentions of giving us a second qualifying?

We all took the grid and all got away cleanly apart from a stalled Peter Whitmore whose stationary car made Tony Cotton and James Chapman take to the grass to avoid him! Andrew Cliffe’s photos, when scrolled through, show Mr Whitmore's attention turn from start lights to dash lights, Brown pants time! Sara took a more lady like approach and drove to the inside in a true heroinly like move!

Buy the end of lap one Kat and Ben had a huge lead from the rest of the field. David Tilson, Steven Brookes and Geoff Jones were having a good battle, while Geoff Fern shot off leaving all other 1600's in the distance.

Tony Davis overtook me early followed by Dave Brady, Tony then set his sights on David Parkinson in second place.

Kat seemed to have the better of Ben likewise Chris Vinall over Steven Brookes but Geoff Fern who seemed to have it all wrapped up began to slow, running on three cylinders. Surely not more bad luck for T.F.R..

David Parkinson lost second to Tony but got it back as the slowing Van Diemen of Geoff dropped back to 4th, Tony Cotton stole the last step on the podium.

Dave Brady was closing fast but it was too late as the flag was out. I was just happy to see the Chequered flag but could not see the pit wall, my boys or turn one due to the tears and rush of relief, emotion and joy as I crossed the line and became the 2008 champion.

James ,Brian and Sara closed the field and class wins went to Kat Impey, Chris Vinall and Tony Davis! Well done to you all!

QUALIFYING 2 SATURDAY £60 REFUND!

RACE 2 SUNDAY!

Starting from Saturday’s race sheet the author wishes he had not driven like Miss Daisy to get the championship in the bag!

One warm up lap was all we got even though we were all new to the weather and track conditions!

A clean start and Kat Impey kept everything as the norm and broke the boys early to gain a nice lead. Chris and Steven lead the pack for the class B cars. Geoff Fern got through the pack fast and sat in a comfortable first place with the plug lead now back in place and the Van Diemen firing on all four cylinders!

I followed the pack for the first lap and got an amazing view of David Parkinson doing a 360 out of the Gooseneck without even losing 1 mph (excellent recovery man), I passed David Brady setting him up for Mansfield, I went down the inside after the Gooseneck, Parkinson was already well on the grass. I took Mansfield at warp speed expecting David to slide straight into the back of me! On exiting the corner a good look in the mirrors revealed no blue cars. By the time I got to the mountain the red flags were out!
Turns out David Parkinson missed me but had a coming together with the other blue Van Diemen of Dave Brady. Both cars looked pretty bad but drivers ok, even though they also looked pretty bad!

The restart was clean, in class A Kat lead Ben but our paddock master Steven had become leader of the class B with Geoff Fern in the lead of class C

I took second from Tony Davis on the inside at Mansfield but upon catching Len Turner could not get past to take the fight to Geoff!

Ake blew his motor big time at the Mountain leaving a cloud of smoke and a nasty smell that the crowd loved!

Len and I had a good race but the difference in corner speed and straight line speed between the cars was unbelievable!

James, Neil, Chris, Brian and Sara all battled on and all were running when the red flag came out once again. This red flag was caused by the rear wheel of Steve Cave’s car parting company with him, the car stopped at the top of the Mountain, with the wheel rolling half way down the straight giving the spectators at the mountain even more reason to come see us next year!

The second red and chequered flags out to finish round 11 of the year, leaving just rounds 12 and 13 at Snetterton.

My apologies if it seems a bit biased to 1600 or me but I am not a writer by trade!

AVIT!
