| Roll bar Certification
in Van Diemens
Following David Parkinson's recent
article on roll bars, Jonathan Baggott contacted
Van Diemen to enquire about certification. The enquiry came up with another
interesting item.
Jonathan to Van Diemen:
I have an RF87 Kent and a RF95 Zetec.
I am hearing reports that in 2008 scrutineers will be asking for a manufacurer's
certificate validating the structural integrity of all single seaters'
roll hoops.
Is this something you are aware of and can you supply the necessary documentation?
heritage@vandiemen.co.uk
(Derek Wild) replied as follows:
"Dear Jonathan,
Thank you for your email regarding roll hoop certificates for use in 2008.
I do not know if this is compulsory for 2008 but it would appear to be
a good safety idea and might help when selling cars, etc.
I do have the necessary safety roll bar certificates for your Van Diemens
RF87 and RF95. The certificate for the '95 car was issued for FF2000 cars
which are 2 litre, but the roll hoops were the same as for the Zetec chassis.
It was issued in '94 and covers '95, '96, and '97.
Regarding your enquiry, there is a one-off fee of £25 for information
to cover time, research and postage. Simply phone our parts department
01953 714788 and tell them you are a “Heritage” customer.
They will assist you by taking your credit card payment and mailing details.
Once your payment is received, the requested information will be promptly
sent to you.
After 35 years of building many types of racing cars that have been sold
worldwide, we have moved from our original factories at Chalk Road, Snetterton,
to a new factory at East Harling. Our new premises is only 2 miles from
Snetterton Racing Circuit; in fact, we are so close we can still hear
the cars testing. As I hope you will appreciate, transferring 35 years
of equipment and stores has been quite a challenge to all concerned. We
are now up and running after this major task.
As we have many loyal customers who drive Van Diemens, we are evaluating
the possibility of Club Van Diemen. Membership in Club Van Diemen would
provide our Van Diemen owners with technical information, a quarterly
newsletter, periodic specials on old and redundant parts and Club Van
Diemen merchandise.
We would be grateful for your feedback on this idea, so let us know what
you think."
So, if you run a Van Diemen and fancy the idea, I'm sure heritage@vandiemen.co.uk
would be delighted to hear from you.
