Board Meeting, 8 October 2008

An additional Director’s meeting took place on the 8th October to deal with business deferred or unfinished at the September meeting.

2009 Calendar. All race organisers contacted have acknowledged receipt of our request (this includes BARC!). MSVR can accommodate some races but not the full calendar. BRSCC can offer meetings at six of our eight favoured circuits. CSCC meet in the near future to discuss our requirements.

Spa. It is currently unclear if Spa 2009 is on offer. The flurry of activity on the Forum that occurred after the publication of the abstract of the September minutes in Startline had declined inconclusively. There were several offers of finance to underwrite the cost of the meeting. However, relatively few had contributed to this debate and the finance available would not underwrite the cost of the whole meeting. Alternatives include: the main race organiser for our 2009 season being able to offer a suitable continental event or in view of the current World financial situation, concentrating the club’s activities on UK events.

Future technical regulations for Mono2000. The changes expounded in the recent paper were approved, with the proviso that the Formula Renault provisions be moved from 2009 to 2010. But, given some disappointing entries for Mono2000, there was pressure to move the 2010 date for the introduction of these changes to 2009. It was agreed that those with a stake in this championship be contacted and canvassed for their views because introduction of these changes in 2009 would breach previous stated MRC policy. NB: If you are a 2000 owner or are hoping to compete in 2000 (not classic) next year, please email Russ Giles by clicking this link, or contact him as shown on the forum.

Future technical regulations for Mono1200. The paper was well received by the directors. The proposed Mono1000 would accommodate those currently racing in Mono1200F and Mono1200S, all cars currently racing use sub 1000cc engines. The Mono1400 class with its suggested weight limit of 460kg, would enable F3 and FF cars converted to motorcycle engines to be competitive as well as offering current cars that cannot approach the 400kg weight limit a more suitable class to race in. To date, feedback has been positive and several drivers have stated that they will support the Mono1400 class. It was not anticipated that Mono1400 cars will be faster than Mono1000, time will tell. It was agreed that the changes be introduced in 2009. This date is possible because all cars currently racing are accommodated by the 2009 regulations.

AGM and prize giving dinner will take place at Tewkesbury on Saturday 21st February 2009. Hopefully, publicity/tickets will be available at the Snetterton meeting.

Club Administrator. David Cox advised the board that Mary Cox wished to step down from the Club Administrator duties by February 2009. The post with its job description is to be advertised. It was suggested that the Championship Co-ordinator role may be best served if the co-ordinator is a director. David Cox observed that this used to be the case. He pointed out that MSA regulations preclude the Co-ordinator being a competitor.

Drivers Reps.

  • There was some debate concerning the position of cars on the margins of the Mono2000 Mono Classic Classes.
  • An 1800 had been excluded from the Oulton Park results following failing scrutineering. The CoC had imposed additional penalties.
  • An individual has been banned from the Forum.

AoB.

  • There was some debate with regard to the effect of the current World Financial Situation on the chance of the club securing sponsorship.
  • A request was made for more varied scrutineering.
