1200/1400 - Snetterton meeting

At Snetterton the club held a Mono1200 drivers meeting to introduce and seek feedback for the new Mono1400 class proposal. It was a very useful meeting in which the following were discussed:

  • The reasons behind the class change
  • What we hoped to achieve by the change
  • Explanations to the Jedi community that there was no intention to increase the weight limit of the Mono1000 class (this was of major concern to the Jedi drivers at the circuit)
  • Parity with 750 MotorClub in terms of providing a place for their motorcycled engined cars to come and race
  • Ralph Firman’s new single seat racing car, the RFR, which is very similar to that driven by a current 1200 competitor that also just happens to weigh 400kg, just right for our new class.

It was a fruitful and engaging discussion. Conversations with people on a 1 to 1 basis after the meeting were greeted with a warm appreciation of what we where doing and all thought it was a very good idea. Chris Woodhouse asked if he could relay the information to Steve Owen of OMS Racing Cars as he had heard about the proposal and was keen to be kept up-to-date with its progress. It was generally thought that this change would coax a number of hillclimb people with OMS and other racing cars, currently running Hayabusa engines, to look at racing with the Monoposto club in 2009.

One suggestion that was made was to reduce the weight to 450kg in order to have parity with the 750 MotorClub.
