Dry Break Couplings

The forum seems to have thankfully died down on dry break couplings so presumably everybody is aware of the regs. In order to draw a line I emailed the MSA:

Subject: Dry Break Couplings in Club Racing

Dear Sirs

I race a Formula Vauxhall Junior in Monoposto single seat club racing.

My interpretation of the blue Book is that I am NOT required to fit a dry break coupling as we are not an MSA championship, but to avoid doubt I would appreciate clarification.

With best regards

Tony Cotton

Here is their reply:

Dear Tony,

The way the regulations for dry break couplings is written makes it applicable to firstly any cars competing in 'MSA' or 'British' titled Championships (with the exception of road going production cars in Sprints & Hillclimbs). And secondly it is applicable to any new build cars as of 1.1.2009. Therefore if you wish to participate in a new car at any point you will be required to make this facility available.

For fuel injected cars this does need to be one of the couplings approved by the FIA. A list of which is available at www.fia.com. Competitors are also required to carry and make available a 300mm (min.) length of hose with the appropriate mating part attached.
