A Reader Writes....

James Williams Dallara F392, built 2003/04. Pic: Dennis Alton

Dear Editor,

It was interesting reading about the new Mono 1400cc class which has been adopted by the Monoposto Club. I often look at what is going on in the Mono world having considered racing in it myself a few years ago and moving on from hillclimbing. However, work and family commitments meant I stayed hillclimbing.

Anyhow, it was great to see you use a picture of our car in a number of your articles. I run the Terry Davis built Dallara F392 in the British Hillclimb Championship which you had pictured in a number of your articles. I think the Mono 1400 is a great idea, and the idea of converted Dallara’s and Reynards with bike engines is great. Just to give you some idea, our car weighs 355kg fully fuelled and ready to go although this does not include a reverse gear or a fire extinguisher. So your target weight of 450kgs should provide a good challenge for any driver/engineer.

I will be carrying on hillclimbing but best of luck with it all. I hope you get a good grid of cars for this great new class.

Best Regards,

James Williams

For our readers unfamiliar with hillclimbing, James is a leading light of the 1600 class, and Terry Davies, who built his beautiful car, is an engineering genius. To give you an idea, he has produced, by himself, a V8 based on 2 Hayabusas on a common crankcase. James has a very interesting job but I'll keep quiet about it in case he turns up at a Mono meeting. We think the pic is Prescott.

James shares the car with his father Charles. Over a 26 year career in hillclimbing, Charles has run a wonderful selection of cars including an Argo JM6, Saracen FF2000, Ralt RT30 and March 792. All would have been eligible in some form for Mono, the March with a bit of a struggle.

I picked this up at the local leisure centre. I didn't take it up as like most Mono competitors I'm quite good at spinning. It's stopping spinning that I struggle with. If you know what this sort of spinning is, please email us care of: Sebastian.Bourdais@ToroRosso.it

ANOTHER AGM PRESENTATION

After the presents had been given to David and Mary at the AGM, there was another, light hearted, presentation.

Russ Giles had travelled under his own steam and at his own expense to act as club steward at the Spa race in July. At least one of the competitors at that event thought that he should receive formal thanks, but that competitor was ignored and instead Russ received a Belgian Cuisine Kit, consisting of a potato, a bottle of cooking oil and a jar of mayonnaise.

There was also a bottle of Marlborough Pinot Noir, so cheers, Russ and thanks again.

Patrick thought this one up so we thought we would share it.
