| Major National
Magazine to Support Monoposto Racing Series
The
announcement of TRACK AND RACE CARS MAGAZINE (click the logo left to see
their website) as the headline sponsor for this year’s championship
really does present the Club, and that includes every one of our members,
with an exciting and intriguing opportunity.
The Magazine is clearly aiming to fill the yawning gap left by other
publications, to provide informed coverage of “real” national
and club motorsport and its cars. TRC’s by-line “the essential
motorsport monthly: written by the racers for the racers” really
highlights this. The fact is that there are no other print media now serving
this audience well. Internet motorsport club sites, such as Monoposto’s
own undoubtedly excellent offering, tend for good reasons to be highly
focused on their own membership, or to be too generic to be current and
interesting. The relationship with TRC could well be a chance for the
Monoposto Club, our drivers and sponsors, to come to the fore in the eyes
of an informed and enthusiastic readership.
At the same time, in the current difficult financial situation, Monoposto
racing is offering a very carefully arrayed set of classes; which can
give competitors real value-for-money, as well as fast and state-of-the
art motor racing. It’s worth mentioning here that the average entry
fee per race in our 12 race Championship is below £150, and this
includes some of the best venues in British motorsport. So entry fees
will be £275 for the Double Headers and £200 for the single
rounds at Silverstone and Donington.
The deal with TRC was initiated by a contact made by David Cox at the
Autosport Show, which appears this year to have retreated from the rather
boy-racerish positioning that it has adopted in the past to be more grounded
and race-oriented: perhaps a sign of the times. TRC responded very quickly
and positively, fortunately just in time for us to register the new Championship
name with the MSA. So well done David!
During the year we will be helping to provide race reports and other
copy for the Magazine, often under some deadline pressure. Pics will be
provided by our very own Norwich Photo. It will be really great if everyone
can help supply race information, as well as all those other titbits which
make racing such a fascinating and intricate sport, so please give all
the co-operation you can to the Monoposto team who will be doing this.
All offers of help here are very welcome!
For our competitors, if you’ re talking to a possible sponsor
for your efforts and you need any further information/logos etc about
the Championship, MRC or TRC (these initials seem to be an acceptable
abbreviation for the magazine’s name) please do not hesitate to
contact me and I’ll do whatever I can to help.
Me – I’m really looking forward to it.
