Tell us a story...

Club members cannot have failed to notice that we now have headline sponsorship from Track and Race Car Magazine (TRC). The main component of this sponsorship is that the club will receive publicity when TRC print reports of our races in their magazine.

Usually, Simon Davey will write the race reports. A report of the Snetterton meeting appears in the current issue of TRC. Reports printed in TRC are intended to entertain a wider audience than reports printed in Startline, and thus require a fresh approach if they are to entertain.

The author of the TRC reports faces some specific problems if their reports are to entertain the general public. Currently, we have six classes racing. At a double header meeting that means twelve races to report within a document of 850 words. It is worth noting at the recent Snetterton meeting five of the races had the same victor on both days, and that the majority of the victory drives were unchallenged. With this type of material to work with, it is going to be difficult to maintain a casual reader’s interest. However, the task will be easier if results show more variation as they did at Anglesey.

Those involved think that some of our reports in TRC will benefit from an additional component. All ideas are worthy of consideration. My personal view is that when a race report provides material for only part of the TRC report; that a human interest or a car interest story provide the remainder of the report. I feel that the reports in TRC are an opportunity for the MRC to demonstrate to the wider world that one can race successfully when one is not: young, rich, or linked to the motor industry, and that some race machinery for sentimental or fiscal reasons.

We are looking to have a library of fairly brief reports that can be used as and when they are needed for our TRC column. So don't delay, switch the word processor on. If you overrun, and once started you will overrun, Startline will happily publish your longer pieces, and then edit them down to the length required by TRC.
