| Ray Dackombe Memorial Trophy won by Chris Woodhouse The Sunday rounds of the Track & Race Cars Magazine Mono Championship were designated as the Ray Dackombe Memorial Trophy Meeting for 2009. As you all know this trophy is presented in memory of leading club member Ray Dackombe. This is a racing trophy. The award itself is a very impressive bowl which will be engraved with the names of successive winners. Last year Tristan Cliffe took the award, and this year it’s very appropriate that the winner is another real racer – Chris Woodhouse. He was extremely keen to lift the trophy, and knew he needed to take both fastest lap and the win to do so. In the event to get the win required a classic Mallory “hairpin pass” on the last lap. I think Ray would have enjoyed watching the race, and joining in the pleasure it gave us all. Racing in Mono during the 90s I knew Ray myself, and I confess to an emotional moment while presenting the trophy, and in writing this short appreciation. Simon Davey |
