| Minutes of the Directors' Meeting 7 October 2009 Technical Seminar Simon Davey is currently looking for a venue for the technical seminar. He ideal site should have a lecture room capable of accommodating at least thirty people and have workshop facilities available. Does the membership have any useful suggestions? Race Committee The current situation may be summarised as: all race organisers that the club has raced with in 2009 have been keen to offer us dates in 2010 (CSCC, AMOC, DDMC). Additionally, Castle Combe and MSV have offered dates. We also intend to contact SEMSEC with regard to a possible date at Brands Hatch. The BARC, although contacted on several occasions, have not responded. Directors’ opinion was that the membership were happy with the current 12 round championship. 'It worked well this year'. There was approval for 12 rounds plus additional non-championship races. The latter are frequently not contested by those concentrating on the championship, and so offer others their chance on the podium. The bottom line, when the club selected a race organiser, remains the
cost to the club, and its membership. The Club Administrator, as far as
is feasible, wishes that the economical 2009 race package to be replicated
in 2010. He also favours including several 'luxury' circuits to add variety. Publicity/Social Committee Race Car Live, takes place on 21/22 November at Brands Hatch. The cost of a display with track access is more reasonable than in earlier years. But, after giving some consideration about how this open air event was subject to the vagaries of the November weather, directors decided that it was not appropriate that the club participate. It may be of interest to some club members that this show offers a race car for sale section. I believe that entry to this section is free. The 'Race Car Retro' Show that takes place at Stoneleigh on 12-14 March 2010 was viewed more kindly. Once again Jonathan Baggott offered to organise the club’s display. After several years of displaying spectacular and expensive Mono2000 cars, directors debated choosing a display car that was more suitable for recruitment. The Awards Dinner Dance and AGM have been booked at the Tewkesbury Park Hotel, on Saturday 20th February, 2010. Ticket price is to be £40. Simon Davey will announce when tickets become available. It is hoped that Ewen Sergison will again organise his rather special disco. Sarah organised a well received quiz at Croft. The BBQ organised by the circuit was less satisfactory, see Tristan’s account of the meeting. The MRC hopes to make some press releases that celebrate our full grids in this difficult year. One director thought that a press release emphasising our champions’ age range would have additional interest! Technical Committee The 2010 Technical Regulations should be available in the near future. It was pointed out that the chassis of Dallara and Renaults had been capped at 2004 because the specifications of these cars changed significantly after 2004. It was confirmed that the air restrictor for F3 engines was to be 25mm. The situation with regard to Mono2000 space frame cars was discussed. A suggestion that special provision be made for these cars was not accepted. Directors were mystified as to why there were not more cars opting to run in the Mono1400 class. A discussion on recruiting to the Mono1400 class reached the conclusion that the class needed more publicity. An article in Track and Race Car was suggested. Website/Startline Directors appreciated that some of the membership were experiencing problems accessing the Forum, (on the day of the meeting it was not available). Possible solutions were discussed. Financial The Treasurer was 'optimistic' following the financial success of the recent meeting at Croft and a very good entry at Snetterton. (Optimistic and Treasurer in the same sentence, surely a unique occurrence! Ed) Club Administrator's Report Parts of this report have been referred to elsewhere. Total 2009 membership now approaches that of 2008. Figures for the total membership are nearly identical, but the 2009 figures include ten more guest members than in 2008. The Mono1800 class in particular is attracting members from other formulae. A.o.B Douglas McLay announced that rotational retirement has resulted in his leaving the MSA's Race Committee. Directors discussed deficiencies in the conduct of race meetings. Some directors requested better treatment for competitors in the paddock. It was pointed out that large grids put pressure on space in the paddock and where space is tight it is up to competitors to maximise its efficient use. The organisers have been paid for the race by the MRC, the number of competitors is of importance to the MRC, not necessarily the race organisers. Additionally, the paddock layout is the responsibility of the Chief Paddock Marshal, not the race organisers, Similarly the scrutineers are not chosen directly by the race organisers. We would hope that deficiencies in the performance of some of these individuals should be met by competitors 'behaving professionally'. The value of a Club President to the MRC was discussed. It was suggested that we needed an individual who was sympathetic to the MRC, and whose contacts were of value for networking i.e. an individual with a high profile to 'open doors'. An appropriate question is 'how can the Club President benefit MRC'? Next Meeting: To finish in a similar way to the start. Tuesday 24/11/09, Venue to be decided. After chronic problems with the
reservation system at the current hostelry we are looking for a substitute. Patrick Huston
