At the AGM
 |
| An eager meeting awaits the excitement of an AGM. |
 |
DP apparently found the second hour of the treasurer's accounting
anecdotes especially enthralling
|
The assistant editorial budget didn't run to attending the dinner as
well as the AGM as the Vauxhall Junior needs a new set of spark plugs.
However, there were some interesting developments at the AGM. The more
formal items will appear in a report by Patrick wearing his Secretarial
hat, but the after-AGM forum raised many interesting points. Without getting
out of hand, points were raised in a mature and thoughtful way with the
discussion drifting amicably and very constructively to other matters.
How many motor clubs can say there is no rancour at their AGM?.
One discussion resulted in the comment that the paddock marshall at Snetterton
had been "Simoned" - many thanks to Lenny Coleman (I think)
for that new verb.

| 1 Why was the normally shy and retiring E Sergison wearing
a hat? |
2 It hides an unusual hairdo... |
3 ...which was needed for a prior appearance as
1980's celebrity "Mr T" who appeared in a fantasy involving
unbelievable characters. Unlike Ewan in Mono. |
4 The real Mr T is here with Nancy Reagan who was
married to a man who thought he was US president. Ridiculous. Mind
you, Mr T and Mrs T made quite a couple. |
| Not at the AGM
Tristan
Cliffe was unable to attend either AGM or the Awards Evening. He was
appearing in Rackheath Players production of Findbhera by Elliot Baker.
Picture right, with thanks to Andrew Cliffe. No, we don't understand
either and didn't like to ask. |

Elsewhere.....
Many
members belong to more than one motor club, and so attend more than
one annual function. The Harrisons attended a particularly prestigious
one, that of the Owen Organisation BRM Club. It was here that Neil
received one of their top awards - Circuit Driver of the year. He
is shown here receiving the award from Sir Jackie Stewart for his
Mono 2000 Championship win in 2009. Trophies such as this not only
reflect well on the person to whom they are awarded but increase
the prestige of the club of as a whole - so both congratulations
and thanks to Neil.

| We were privileged to see the rebuild in progress of another Toyota
3SGE engine for yet another new Dallara. Since the consensus is that
this is a fairly neat and light engine for an iron one we were surprised
by the builder's comments. "I haven't had to deal with such a
great big heavy lump of a thing since I rebuilt a Fordson Tractor
engine. To show his views, the engine was resplendent in Fordson blue. |

| Mark Smith - a Clarification
A loyal West Midlands reader has asked us to clarify last month's
piece on Mark Smith, of whom the club has 2 members with that name.
He has enquired whether either is related to Mark Smith who is technical
director of Force India., to Mark (E) Smith, leader of John Peel
fave "The Fall", or US Oval Racer Mark Smith. For the
benefit of this reader we provide pictures of all and confirm that
none are Monoposto drivers to the best of our knowledge.

The late Mark E Smith of The Fall, who despite being
clinically deceased bravely continues to perform. |
