Croft 25/26 September 2010 - Quick Report

Despite threats, it didn't rain at all but it was cold, especially at night (so we were told by some happy campers).

Arty Cameron fitted a new engine on Friday afternoon and won the 1000 race on Saturday, Peter Bragg won the 1800 class, Geoff Fern 1400 and Nigel Davers 1600. We had another celeb racing with us, Martin Byford, in an RF97 Zetec. An eventful 2 litre race was won by Tristan Cliffe, on this occasion unchallenged by Jeremy Timms who had a suspension problem on the out lap.Nick Anstruther took the Classic class after Richard Snuggs broke a throttle cable. Bizarre accident of the day happened to Steven Griffin when without contact he lost a wheel at the complex, fortunately with relatively little damage except to the underpants of the following driver. As a result the race finished inder a safety car - a Fiat 500 no less, but the Abarth variant and driven briskly.

In Sunday's races, much the same as Arty Cameron again won 1000, Geoff Fern 1400, Peter Bragg 1800 and Nigel Davers 1600. In the 2 litre race, Tristan passed Jeremy with 2 wheels on the start finish straight grass to triumph narrowly in a very fast race (a new record). Nick Anstruther again took the Classic class.

Worst incident of the weekend happened in the paddock. Malcom Scott kindly volunteered to push start a car, slipped and went to hospital with a severe shoulder injury (dislocated, we think) which will put him out for the rest of the year. In true racer style he was at the circuit on Saturday evening and then on Sunday to advise Jennifer who took over his entry (though we think the journey from Essex might have been a bit to see how her Dad was doing...).

DDMC were as friendly as usual, and the meeting ran ahead of schedule. A trip to Croft is always a pleasure not only for the testing circuit (where the corners were described as cunning little b*******s by one driver) but also for the other races. The Northern Sports and Saloon Car Championship is a wonderfully eclectic collection where the first few cars were a Lotus Elan, Marcos Chevy, Porsche 996 and Seat Leon.
