Racing with Monoposto in 2012

Monoposto Racing Club announces details of our 2012 programme which aims to provide a top-class platform for the largest and most cost-effective single seater category in the UK.

Club Membership & Championship Registration

The combined fee for full Club Membership and Championship Registration is £125, unchanged from 2011. Membership renewal forms have been posted to current members
The full Club Membership Application/Championship Registration form is available for download here.

Guest Membership/Registration forms, valid for one or two events, are also available for download here.

For new-to-racing drivers the Club waives the Championship Registration fee - a saving of £95.

2012 Calendar

There will be 13 rounds in the 2012 Monoposto Championship, with 11 scores to count. Once again the Club’s relationship with race organisers MSVR will enable us to race at most of the UK’s premier circuits.

In addition the Club has scheduled non-Championship events which include the unmissable Spa Summer Classic, and a televised race at Mallory Park. At least one additional major non-Championship event is planned; details to be announced.

The Provisional 2012 Race Calendar appears below and can be downloaded with further information here.

As well as the race programme, the Club will be at Race Retro in February, and will run a New Drivers Seminar during the Show for any drivers (Monoposto members or not) and their teams who are new to single seater racing. More details here.

Feature social events at races during the season will include the very popular MonoBBQ and the now legendary Monoposto Baking Grand Prix. This is not to mention the opportunity for free hot drinks (and sometimes…cakes!) at the Monoposto Club Awning which is set up in the Monoposto Paddock at every Championship event.

Last but not least, whether you are an existing Club member wanting to celebrate the Club’s excellent season in 2011, or a new member wishing to meet many of the people who will be racing with you in 2012, come to the Club’s Annual Awards & Dinner Dance at the Barcelo Hotel in Daventry on 18th February. Ticket application here.

Championship Race Formats & Entry Fees

All but one of the 2012 Championship events are “twin headers”. These consist of two completely separate rounds held on consecutive days; each day having separate qualification sessions and races. This means it is possible to enter only one round at a twin-header, or for two drivers to share a car, each driving in one round. The exception is Oulton Park which is a single header.

As in 2011, at all Championship events the entry will be divided into two grids, by class. A change from last year is that the Club is not planning to share the track with the F3 Cup for any of our Championship events.

Working with MSVR, the Club has kept any increases in entry fees to an absolute minimum, and the entry fee for some events has been reduced. This means that the average entry fee per round has only risen by 1% compared to 2011, and with one round less than in 2011, the total cost of entry fees for the Championship has been significantly reduced for 2012.\

Championship Regulation.

The Club is in the middle of a period of deliberate rule stability, which started two years ago when it became clear that overall economic conditions were going to be challenging. There are therefore few changes to the Regulations for 2012.

Since these were first published additional consultations have lead to the draft regs being amended. The list of key changes for 2012 is now:

  • Mono 1400 and Mono 1000 classes will be merged, becoming “MotoMono”. No changes to cars currently eligible for either of the merged classes are required.
  • Chassis eligibility dates for Mono 1800, 1600, MotoMono will be moved forward a year, as is usual. There is no change to eligibility dates for Mono 2000 and Mono Classic 2000.
  • Regulation date for Formula Renault 2.0 will be moved forward to 2008 (as in the 2011 BARC FR Championship), bringing the eligibility date for these cars into line with the majority of Monoposto cars. The principal effect of this change is to permit the use of all three series of bodywork for this car. The minimum weight limit of these cars will now be 570 Kgs, also in line with 2011 BARC FR. A 37.00mm air intake restrictor is mandatory. Monoposto technical regulations for 2012 have been developed to specify more clearly what is permitted or otherwise for these cars when run in Monoposto.
  • A “Mono Heritage” Class will be introduced. This is for cars complying with previous Monoposto (Class “A”) regulations, that are otherwise ineligible. Entries will be by invitation only, at selected Championship rounds (see the Provisional Calendar). Log books will be issued to eligible invited cars.
  • In Mono Classic 2000 a specific engine eligibility category will be introduced for Zetec 1800 engines compatible in specification to those used in Formula 4.
  • In Mono 1600 the regulations will clarify the eligibility of certain Boxer-type engines

Regulations are available for download here.

SUNBAC Nova Awards

Monoposto Racing is one of the major entry points into UK motorsport for drivers of all ages who are new to racing. In 2011 there were 16 drivers who started their racing careers with the Club.

Each year the SUNBAC Nova Awards go to the two drivers who started their season as novices (as defined by the MSA) who have the highest Monoposto Championship points totals in any Class after any dropped scores. The winner receives two free Monoposto Championship event entries for 2013, worth up to £675, and the runner up receives one free Monoposto Championship event entry for 2013, worth up to £350.
