Phew – What a Scorcher! - The Brands Baking Grand Prix
A packed field contested the 3rd Monoposto Baking Grand Prix on the Brands Hatch Grand Prix circuit on Saturday 18th August. Both the weather and the competition were unbelievably hot, with the lead changing several times as the Judges struggled to separate the entries.
The entry was particularly strong and full of interest this year, and included a Volcano Strawberry Surprise from the baking aficionados at MSVR as well as a Chocs Mable from Team Scrut. The mid-field was incredibly competitive with than 9 entries separated by less than 2 points.
At the head of the field the two leaders dead-heated, with an independent third Judge summoned to call the tie break. After a tense stand-off it became clear that the leading Chris Dittmann entry, with Sarah in charge, had just headed off a challenge from the Omicron Motorsport’s works Rum Truffle Tart, in the hands of Laura. However both entries were superb and deserved congratulations as well as eating at the earliest opportunity. Only just behind them in third Donnie brought in her entry from Team Fern Racing to a well deserved podium position.
At the bottom of the field the Foamed Seat entry had to be excluded during the Judging when it proved to be inedible, although the Judges are expected to recover…eventually.
Many congratulations to all the entries, and thanks for donating their work to the BBQ, where the entries were promptly consumed by an appreciative audience. And finally thanks to the Judges Dave Hirst and Alex Shaw, as well as to special Tie-Break Judge Himanshu Shah, for the effort and not inconsiderable personal risks they took in fulfilling their role; and also to Sarah Fern for her organisation and Geoff Fern for sponsoring the magnificent trophies.
